In Passing

We would like to pay honor to some of our notable members who have recently passed away. This is a work in progress as time allows so it will be added to from time to time. If you have information on players who maye have passed away and have ties in the past to Spokane hockey, please email us with information.

 
FOUNDING MEMBER - CARL CIRULLO

Cirullo, passed away Thursday, August 28, 2014, in Spokane, Washington. He was 87. Carl was born in Drumheller, Alberta, May 24, 1927, to Pasquarosa (Rosa) Amicarella Cirullo and Vitantonio (Vito-Pete) Cirullo. He was the youngest of six children (Tony, Frank, Carmella, Madeline, and Mary). His marriage to Marjorie Roberts lasted over 50 years and blessed him with three children. Carl had an extensive and successful hockey career which included playing with the 1948 49 and 1949 50 Spokane Flyers; winning the city’s first National Championships. He also served more than two decades as a trainer for the Spokane Jets, Flyers, and Chiefs. In 1970, the Jets became the first U.S. based team to win the Allan Cup. They won again in 1972. He was a member of the Inland Northwest Sports Hall Of Fame’s Scroll Of Honor. He was also a founding member of the Spokane Oldtimers Hockey Association.

 

SPOKANE HOCKEY'S 'BUDDY'

Longtime Spokane hockey figure Alan 'Buddy" Bodman passed away Aug. 1, 2012. With the exception of one season Bodman was a fixture in Spokane from 1956 until his passing. Take a look at who Bodman was and what he meant to the hockey world.

'Godfather' Kneeshaw passes on...

As we all likely know one of our longtime Spokane Oldtimers, Vern Kneeshaw, passed away today, April 1, at age 90. Read more about “Kneesh” in the following story was written in 2003 in the NW Hockey Report and tells more about the “Godfather.” We also have made Vern's obituary available.

Oldtimers Scholarships 

Each year the Spokane Oldtimers Hockey Association, Inc. offers area hockey players and teams the opportunity to apply for assistance from our scholarship program.

In order to apply you need to fill out the following information and submit it to the Spokane Oldtimers along with a personal letter that tells us why you would be a worthy candidate for our consideration. Return to: PO Box 48742 Spokane, WA. 99228-8742 e-mail, or bring with you when you make a presentation.

For best consideration we suggest the candidate requesting funds make a personal appearance before our grants and scholarships committee. Please e-mail for further information as we are restructuring our current process.
