Spokane Oldtimers Grinders Division

In the early 1990s while located in the old Spokane Coliseum, the Spokane Old-timers membership grew to the point that it was decided to split into two teams, mostly divided by age. The younger of the two teams became known as the Spokane Grinders, but the Grinder name wasn't officially adopted until more recently.

The Grinders still operate under the umbrella of the Spokane Old-timers Hockey Association and play and have locker room facilities at the Eagles Ice-A-Rena

The Grinders have never been involved in a formal league but have competed at the Senior A level since their inception, playing the Sun Valley Suns annually; going to Alaska to play the Anchorage Aces, and of course many visits to Seattle to play the Indians.

The Grind ers have competed in the age 30 and over USA Hockey Nationals in Phoenix and Las Vegas over the last few years. Their favorite tournament is still the Northwest Classic right here at Eagles.

Some interesting names have passed through Spokane and have been involved with the Grinders, former NHL stars in Butch Goring and Lindsay Carson to former Spokane Flyers like Nels Venerus who still skates today. The Grinders are also seeing more Spokane Chiefs settle down in Spokane. Former Chief Justin Hocking is the newest member; he and his family now make their home in Spokane. Justin is now an agent for Tomlinson Black after retiring from Pro Hockey.

The Grinders offer a slightly more competitive brand of hockey, but it's mostly about getting a good work out and being able to play in a few games & tournaments to relieve some stress from their real jobs.

The Grinders have become very involved with youth hockey coaching in SAYHA and the War Horses. Many of the Grinders were involved with the week-long PacWest Hockey School that takes place at Eagles Ice-A-Rena each summer.
